How Revuie uses your location data on Android devices
We use location data (along with proximity to our Bluetooth beacons that are placed in featured venues and other data) to give a reliability rating for each review. Our ReAl Score combines the star rating the user gave the venue with an orange background which is brighter for reviews with high reliability ratings. It sounds complicated, but put more simply, the reviews you can trust jump of the page, while less reliable reviews just fade away. This makes it easy for you to see which reviews you can trust.
Reviews must achieve at least a minimum reliability rating (which we call the reliability threshold) for their star rating to be included in the average rating for a venue, and to count towards the review requirements for badges.
We also use location data to help us select which reviews to show in the latest reviews feed, to return the closest results in the search, and to show you your location on the map.
While location plays an important part in our app, we totally understand that some users may have concerns about sharing where they are. We've set out below the various options that you have for sharing your location on an Android device, and what features you'll be able to use with each option, so you can make an informed decision on which is best for you based on how you want to use the Revuie app.
Always: with this option we can record location data and beacons at any time, even when you are not using the app. This means that you can create reviews after you have visited venues and still achieve a good ReAl Score. It's a great option if you want to focus on your night out, and catch up on reviewing the venues later! The latest reviews feed, place search and map will also be tailored to your location. You may find that this option increases battery usage.
While Using The App: with this option we can record location data and beacons whenever you are using the app. You can achieve a good ReAl Score on your reviews, as long as you make sure you open the app while you are at the venue, even if you create the review later. But if you forget to open the app while at the venue, you won't achieve a good ReAl Score, so your star rating won't count towards the average for the venue, and the review will not count towards any badges. With this option, the latest reviews feed, place search and map will also be tailored to your location.
Ask Every Time: with this option, you'll be prompted to share your location each time the app requests it. You'll be able to achieve a good ReAl Score, as long as you make sure you open the app and share your location while you are at the venue, even if you create the review later. But if you forget to open the app while at the venue, or choose not to share your location that time, you won't achieve a good ReAl Score, so your star rating won't count towards the average for the venue, and the review will not count towards any badges. With this option, the latest reviews feed, place search and map will also be tailored to your location whenever your share it.
Deny: with this option, you'll be able to get basic functionality in the app. The latest reviews feed will not be tailored to your location, the map and place search will default to Revuie's home town - Birmingham, UK. You won't achieve a good ReAl Score, so your star rating won't count towards the average for the venue, and the review will not count towards any badges.
Whichever setting you choose, you can always change it later in Settings, by going to Location, then App Permissions and scrolling down to find Revuie in the list.
You also have the option to delete your account, which means that any location data will be deleted in line with our Account Deletion Policy, or just to delete your location data. You can find these options in the settings area of your profile, on the Edit Profile page.
